NCBW Call to Action: March on Washington—Defend the Vote
Sixty-three years ago, on August 28, 1963, hundreds of thousands of activists and civil rights leaders stood shoulder to shoulder on the National Mall to demand economic opportunity and freedom for Black Americans. They lit the path we walk today—but the work is not finished.
NCBW calls on every chapter to stand in support of the March on Washington: Defend the Vote at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28. This is a critical national moment to reaffirm our commitment to justice, civic engagement, and the empowerment of Black women, their families, and their communities.
This year’s call is grounded in three urgent priorities:
Voting Rights: Protect equal ballot access, advance civic equity, and strengthen community-led voter education.
Economic Dignity: Advocate for fair wages, equal opportunity, and pathways to economic stability.
Affordability: Demand meaningful access to affordable education, safe housing, quality healthcare, and nourishing food.
We ask each chapter to mobilize members and community partners; share the march information through chapter communications and social-media platforms; encourage voter education and registration; and organize a local civic-engagement activity if members are unable to attend in Washington, D.C. For NCBW chapters in the northeast region, please consider attending.
This month, we march for the vote. We march for justice. We march for the future. Together, NCBW will continue to lead with purpose, advocate with strength, and ensure that our voices are heard.
